A: We currently have one annual grant application deadline: August 1st. If awarded, grant payments will be sent around December 15th.
A: JTMM’s Board of Trustees assesses each grant and decides what organizations receive an award. Grants are awarded on a non-discriminatory basis.
A: Please know that JTMM does not use a thematic charitable focus, as requests for a variety of purposes have been awarded by our Trustees. That said, we do have a geographic focus, as our grant funds must benefit the residents of the City of Danville and/or Pittsylvania County. If your organization is located outside of our service area, please be sure to explain how your grant request will benefit Danville and/or Pittsylvania County residents in your application.
A: On JTMM’s website, select the “GRANTS” tab and follow the instructions to complete the online application. First-time grant applicants should “create a new account” as an “Organization.” Next, you may “Sign in to your account” to access the portal. The application will be located under “Opportunities” on your dashboard.
A: There is no firm guideline regarding grant request amounts. JTMM suggests that applicants disclose the total amount needed for the project and report all other funding sources and collaborators.
When combined with JTMM funds, there should be enough total funding that allows the request project or program to be completed within one year of receiving a JTMM grant payment.
JTMM may award all, some, or none of the requested amount.
A: Yes, there are no limitations on the number of requests that can be submitted for each deadline. You may submit separate requests with unrelated components or single requests with multiple related projects. Applicants submitting multiple or multi-part requests should be sure to convey to JTMM which projects are of highest priority, in the case that not all aspects of your project can be funded.
A: This varies each year and is dependent upon the number of qualified requests, the award amounts, as well as grant funding availability.
A: Grant notification letters are typically sent approximately three to four months after the application deadline date.
A: Awardees will receive an award notification letter and a grant agreement, which will include details related to the award. After JTMM receives a signed grant agreement, the award payment will be sent directly to your organization. Within one year of receiving a JTMM grant payment, your organization should submit a post-grant report utilizing the same online JTMM application portal your organization used to apply for the grant request awarded.
A: Yes, we are happy to consider grant requests from local schools. Please note that K-12 public school grant requests should be submitted through the Superintendent’s office of the respective school system (City or County). If you represent an individual school or school group, such as a PTO, we recommend contacting your district Superintendent’s office for further assistance and directions.
A: Yes, we are happy to support such organizations. However, the funds requested must be for the general benefit of the residents of Danville/Pittsylvania County, not just your church’s congregation.
A: Due to the Trust’s own scholarship program, the Trust does not consider requests which establish, support, or administer other higher education scholarship programs.
A: No, funds received may not be diverted to attempt to influence legislation, or participate (or intervene in) any political campaign.
A: Only higher education scholarships are awarded to individuals; charitable grants are awarded to 501(c)3s, other tax-exempt organizations, and government agencies.
A: Please endeavor to ensure your application is thorough, and all relevant information which might help us render a decision is included. However, if your application is incomplete such that JTMM cannot render a decision, the Trust reserves the right to request additional information from your organization. Please be sure to include up-to-date contact information with your request and respond to any outreach from JTMM in a timely manner.
A: Please know that all decisions made by JTMM’s Board of Trustees are final. Furthermore, neither the Trustees nor JTMM staff shall release comment or justification for decisions made. Nevertheless, so long as your organization meets the eligibility standards described elsewhere, you are encouraged to apply again for different or revised projects at the next deadline.
A: If circumstances prevent your organization from completing your post-grant report on time, please contact the Trust to discuss a deadline extension. Any extensions should be pre-approved prior to the deadline. Please know that having a late or incomplete post-grant report may impact your ability to receive new awards until the required report is received.
